Dallas Mavericks: 20-1

Here’s a frightening thought, via Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com:”You do not get any better than Rick Carlisle offense, but Carlisle’s offense got a lot better this offseason.”
Drink this one in.
Last season, Carlisle’s Mavs tied for second in the league having an offensive rating of 109, decimal points behind the NBA-best Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBA.com. While the reduction of steady facilitator Jose Calderon and ace sniper will sting, Dallas brought in Jameer Nelson to soften the blow. And a few possessions can be absorbed by Monta Ellis as well, which won’t be a bad thing for the Mavs’ attack.
The increase comes in Chandler Parsons, who will play at small forward to absorb nearly all of the wing minutes Shawn Marion and Vince Carter. Tyson Chandler mans the center of what should be a better defense.
What Dallas has is delicate. It depends upon the continuing and wellbeing potency of Dirk Nowitzki, about whom an crime that is elite may nevertheless be built. That is a remarkable thing to say about a participant, but Nowitzki is, himself.
He’ll be a defense-shredder from the place. And the remainder of the Mavs will play him off as Carlisle pulls the strings from the seat.
Doubt this set of battle-tested vets.
